About Me

Ahoy! I'm CaptDedEyes!

(They/Them)

I am an autistic digital artist who has been creating a bunch of stuff for over 10 years including illustrations, videos, game dev projects, and animations. I have always strived to make fun & goofy artwork in a western/anime mixed art style, though I am not afraid to make something dramatic or visceral too!

To see a professional website of my artwork, check out my portfolio here. If you have more questions about me, then please read my FAQ.

Note: I have autism. I may not pick up on subtlety or be receptive to feedback, but I'm working on it. Don't be afraid to be blunt. Please be patient with me.

The Captain's Manifesto

  1. I intend to keep this website up & running, especially when every other social media site fails me...

And if Neocities withers away at some point, I will look for a new website host. I made this website have a space away from social media sites AND to have an outlet for my skills and hobbies, so I suppose the best way to describe this site is that it’s a personal archive. I also just wanted a personal space that I could call my own. Social media can drastically change, while personal websites are forever.

  2. ...but this website cannot replace social media.

It’s because interacting with people outside of social media is VERY hard. And trying to keep this website updated takes more time than posting an update on a social media site. New art pieces, for example, are easier to post on social media than on my website, so I will post my art on my website last. Writing entries like blog posts or essays are better suited for my website because character limits on social media will not allow it, but they take a lot of time to complete. All in all, this website will effectively function as an archive.

  3. I don’t want to be famous for something I’m not. I want to be known for what I love.

Generally speaking, I love sharing illustrations and writing! And I want to do more than that, but I don’t want to be known for something I have lost my passion with, including memes and fandoms. If something sucks, then I hit the bricks! While achieving fame sounds good on paper, I don’t like people mythologizing me as an “influencer” or something like it. I just wanna share what I love! I’m not god, a maser of memes, or an abstract user on a site; I am an artist & a person, so treat me as such. Unless you walk in with a behavior that rubs me the wrong way, I promise I won’t bite.

  4. Social media sucks because of capitalist saturation.

When I say that a social media site is downright terrible, it's because it has succumbed to so much capitalist rot and money-making schemes that the user experience is outright hostile. Usually, this is why I will abandon particular sites, but it gets harder to leave if most of my friends and favorite accounts are on a site, so it depends. Building a social media presence takes time and dedication, especially as a creative, so I would hate to feel alienated from a site that becomes hard to cultivate. After all, I will come to a social media site to share my stuff and to commune with its userbase, but I am not going there to dig into business relations as my first priority.

  5. Do not tolerate hateful conduct & hostile behaviors.

And I don’t just mean kicking out the bigots like racists, transphobes, ableists, and beyond: I’m also talking about the social media norms that normalize hostile conduct and rage bait such as debates, callout culture, and generally negative behaviors. However, you should try to understand why a person believes in an unflattering viewpoint before you can thoughtlessly dismiss them, because chances are that you can turn that conflict into something constructive. But if that doesn’t work, or if the person's intentionally being hostile, don’t even bother reasoning with them. Also, do not indulge in reading negative/hostile posts. It’s not good for you.

  6. The hostile nature of the internet does not have to be this way.

If the big social media companies cannot improve their sites, then we can cultivate better spaces ourselves. It feels like an act of resistance, in a way. It sends the message that we are unwilling to put up with social media’s shenanigans, and instead focus on building stronger communities between each other by putting everyone on equal footing. In other words, by putting everyone on the same level without social hierarchies, we can build better and more human connections with each other.

My manifesto is partially influenced by other people's manifestos, which includes Bechno Kid, Chaia Eran, sadgrl, and Yesterweb.
