Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use your artwork as my profile picture/banner on social media?

Yes, as long as you credit me by listing my username (@CaptDedEyes) in your bio.

Can I reupload your artwork or video on another site?

I am against the general practice of reuploading content, which is the act of downloading a post & then reuploading it onto social media as a new post. I especially hate it when people do it on big sites like Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Tumblr, TikTok, YouTube, iFunny, or any other site with an enormous presence.

However, I am aware that there are niche social media sites or communities that are not as well known, so please ask me first before you share it there.

Can I share the link to your artwork or video on another site?

Absolutely! Unlike reuploading content, sharing links to my content is fine because it directly connects people to it. I would highly encourage it.

What tools/software do you use for digital art?

I use a medium-sized Wacom Intuos (CTH690AK) & Clip Studio Paint EX.

Can you make [insert drawing/video request here]?

I don't do things for free, bucko. Much less for any of the thousands of followers that I don't know on a personal level. If you want a surefire way of making me draw something (within reason) then be ready when my Commissions open to the public!

Who is that funny orange mermaid peering around the corner of the screen?

That's my mermsona, Capt. Merm! And also, their scallop companion, Scallywag. I made them both in 2021 as a way to have a Vtuber-like persona, but if anything they're a testament to my love for mermaids. 💖🧜‍♀️

You have autism? How does it affect you?

I was diagnosed with autism as a kid, but I've refused to beleive it for over ten years. Needless to say, this refusal has made me turn sour & pessimistic, which has subsequently damaged several friendships online. At least now I know that I need to be upfront about it.

For me, autism makes it hard for me to pick up on subtlety & feedback. I might be just as receptive to anything you tell me as a stubborn teenager with selective hearing. I'm also socially awkward. So yea, it can be hard for me to maintain friendships & personal relationships sometimes.

Patience is key with me, so don't be afraid to be blunt if you need to get a message across.

You're asexual?

I like to think of myself as a gray asexual, but yea! I'm somewhere within the ace spectrum! This is due to me being very ambivalent about sex, so it's often a constant struggle for me.It hasn't stopped me from digging into NSFW content for myself, but as far as engaging in the act of sex myself? I'm not sure if that's for me. I'd rather cherish the romantic or platonic aspects of a relationship if I can, though.

What even IS asexuality?

Asexuality generally means that you have little to no sexual attraction to anyone. However, it's more of a spectrum that can fit alongside other sexualities/attractions when you consider things like the split-attraction model and specific identities.

Some good starting points to look into would include AVEN or Wikipedia.

What's up with your pronouns/gender?

I'm in the process of figuring out how I want to present myself as a non-binary person, so please let me take my time because I WILL need it. For now, please refer to me with they/them pronouns.

Can you make another Trumpet Boy video, please?

Nope, sorry, but I can't. Working on meme videos has ruined my video editing experience, and I am just not having as much fun with it as I used to. So from now on, I do NOT want to dedicate more time on them.

How do you make those Trumpet Boy videos?

It's a long-winded process. What basically happens is that when I have drawn all of the characters, I "animate" a screen recording of each character's sprite (by messing with the transformation tools lol) on Photoshop with a green screen layer.

Then I'll gather all of those clips and string them together in Final Cut Pro to apply chroma-keying. I'll usually "bake" the scene at least once by exporting the raw footage and then reimport it to apply special effects and camera movements.

Why did you pause the gifs on this site?

It's for the sake of accessiblity. I beleive it's possible to make a cool website without a visual bombardment of animated GIFs, which the old web was especially guilty of with its wide array of flashing lights and images. Catering to people who suffer from this is something I've cared about for a long time, so that's why all GIFs on my website behave they way they are on here.

If you can code your own website, then why don't you embed your YouTube videos on here?

For one thing, messing with the CSS styling on YouTube embeds is a pain in the ass. And for another thing, some of my videos have been copyright claimed because of my music choices, so even if I WANTED to embed them directly onto here, you cannot watch the video through that, so you'd have to go to YouTube instead.

I'm thinking that there's only a select few websites that can play YouTube embeds no matter what, like my portfolio site, because it's running on Carrd. I'd rather have all or nothing, so I chose to not post YouTube embeds on here. I wasn't happy about embedding content that requires another click to access, so it's probably for the best.💔
